Matthijs Kalmijn received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991. His  research areas are family sociology, social demography, inequality, and migration/ethnicity. Kalmijn has (co-)coordinated several large-scale social surveys in the Netherlands, including the Netherlands Kinship Panel Study (NKPS), the Netherlands Longitudinal Lifecourse Study (NELLS), and more recently, the multi-actor survey Parents and Children in the Netherlands (OKiN). Kalmijnā€™s current work focuses on (a) adult intergenerational relationships, (b) divorce and family complexity, and (c) the impact of inequality and migration on family relationships.
